Despite being one of the most popular car brands in the world, there are still a few things that most people do not know about Mazda. Ever since its introduction to the United States, the Japanese automaker has only grown in stature. Here at Heritage Mazda Catonsville, we are a team of proud Mazda dealers who love learning about the history of our favorite automaker. Here are some of our favorite Mazda fun facts.

  • Mazda is one of the last successful independent automakers. Many of today’s automakers are owned by large conglomerates, which makes the success of independently-owned Mazda even more impressive.
  • The advertising catchphrase of Mazda is “zoom zoom.” The phrase first appeared in a Mazda commercial in 2000 and it has been used ever since. It is the title of a capoeira song, made popular by the 1994 movie “Only the Strong.” The child who originally said “zoom zoom” in the commercials graduated from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor in 2010 with a degree in history. He went to graduate from the Notre Dame Law School in 2014.
  • The Mazda CX-3 was developed in only 13 months. Most cars require two or three years, but the successful Mazda CX-3 went from inception to completion in just over a year. The 2019 Mazda CX-3 is now available at our dealership.
  • Mazda has stuck with rotary engines throughout its life. It first started using rotary engines to distinguish itself after World War II, and to this day, it is the only automaker that mass produces rotary engines.
