If there is one thing Mazda always aims to do for drivers, it’s to give them an exceptional experience behind the wheel. The company continually looks to improve its vehicles with the latest innovations, and this is most evident with Skyactiv® Technology, which is found in all new Mazda SUV models. Heritage Mazda Catonsville explains how this tech impacts several key components.

Engine

Over the years, Mazda engines haven’t just gotten more powerful, but more efficient as well. This is because Skyactiv®-G engines use higher-than-average compression to optimize the air-fuel mixture. This allows more energy to be harnessed from less fuel, which means that you don’t have to stop to fill up as often.

Transmission

Mazda has also worked to improve the transmissions in its vehicles. The Skyactiv®-Drive is a six-speed automatic transmission that’s precisely engineered for smooth and sure shifts, combining responsiveness with smooth power delivery. In addition to making the transfer of torque more efficient, it also helps boost fuel economy. Mazda also makes a Skyactiv®-MT, which is a manual transmission that offers quick and smooth gear shifts, but this is relegated to the company’s cars rather than its SUVs.

Body and Chassis

Mazda doesn’t stop with what’s under the hood. The Skyactiv®-Body is both lighter and more rigid than previous designs, which has boosted performance and safety. The Skyactiv®-Chassis includes an overhauled front and rear suspension, along with an augmented electric power steering system. This has enhanced cruising at highways speeds and agility at lower speeds. Another notable feature is G-Vectoring Control Plus™, designed to improve handling, stability, and responsiveness.
